Soccer Programs

Soccer Programs

T&C Soccer offers a variety of programs for players aged 3 to 18 years; from Recreational (U4-U19) to Academy (U8-U10), Competitive (U11-U19) and Premier (U11 - U19). We have a place to play for everyone!

Recreational (D4) is our entry level, in-house league that is designed for the recreational soccer player. In this division we have players aged from U4 – U10 competing on teams against each other at the T&C Sports Complex.
Academy is a step above Rec. (D4) on the player development pathway. This program is designed for players who are looking for more in terms of development and competition. This program is open to U8 – U10 players. Player must try out or be pre-qualified for the program by the Academy Director.
Recreational (D3) is designed for U11-U19 players who are looking to play for fun. No tryouts are required for Rec. D3. Teams are coached by parent volunteers and games are played in the local Austin area.
Select offers the highest levels of play at T&C. This program is designed for U11-U19 players who want to compete at the highest levels. Within this program we have both Competitive & Premier teams. Try outs are required for Select Soccer.

Recreational (D4)

For ages 3 to 10 (U4 – U10), Recreational Soccer emphasizes fundamentals and instruction, while developing character traits like teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Children participating in Recreational Soccer will be placed on teams by neighborhood prior to the beginning of the season. Team selection also takes into consideration if the player is returning to a team or has submitted a friend or coach requests during registration.

All Division 4 games are played at the T&C Sports Complex, typically on a Saturday. Practice times and locations will not be available until players are assigned to their teams the week before the season starts. Click here for more info.

Academy

For ages 7 to 10 (U8 – U10), Academy is the second step on the player development pathway at T&C Soccer. This program is designed for players who are looking for more in terms of competition and development.

Children participating in the Academy will be placed on teams according to their skill level. Teams will be formed during the first week of practice. Academy teams are coached by paid/professional coaches.

Academy games are played at T&C Sports complex and potentially within the greater Austin area if they are placed on a travel team. Click here for more info.

Recreational (D3)

For ages 10 to 19 (U11 – U19), Recreational Soccer emphasizes fundamentals and instruction, while developing character traits like teamwork and good sportsmanship. There are no tryouts for Recreational (D3) teams, players may sign up and wait to be assigned to a team providing we have one in their age group.

Teams in this division practice once-a-week with a volunteer coach and have access to Skills Training once-a-week for 9 weeks. Half of the games will be played at T&C Sports Complex and half will be away within the Greater Austin area. Click here for more information.

Select

For ages 10 – 19 (U11 – U19), Select is the highest level of play at T&C Soccer. This program consists of Competitive and Premier teams providing an opportunity for players to challenge themselves and improve beyond recreational play.

Players must attend a tryout to be placed on a Select team. We have teams competing at the highest levels of play within Central Texas. Select teams practice twice a week with their coach and have access to Skills Training once a week.

Home games for most of our Select teams are at T&C Sports Complex and away games will be played in the Central Texas area, sometimes as far as San Antonio. For more information on this program click here.

Recreational

Recreational (D4) U4 - U10

This level of play is for players who are still working on the technical fundamentals and understanding of the game. It is the first step in becoming a technically sound player. It is a fun soccer laboratory where kids can experiment with different skills while playing with friends. A place where they can learn and grow without the competitive pressure of higher levels of play. However, players do compete and are challenged when they are on the field. Players at this level have the same opportunities for additional technical training, outside of team training and at no additional cost, as all other levels of play are offered. There is a required 50% playing time during games for every player at this level.

Recreational (D3) U11 - U19

Division 3 teams compete either in-house or in the local area (CAYSA) league. If teams are placed in the CAYSA league then you can expect more travel to games, potentially from Temple to far South Austin, depending on where the other teams are and whether the game is Home or Away. Half the games will be played at T&C (the home games). Players at this level have the same opportunities for additional technical training, outside of team training and at no additional cost, as all other levels of play are offered. There is a required 50% playing time during games for every player at this level.

CAYSA usually organizes tournaments at the end of each season, inviting the teams with the best records during the regular season to participate.

Academy U8 - U10

The T&C Soccer Academy is the second step on the Player Development Pathway at Town & Country Soccer, it forms a bridge between the U7/U8 Recreational and U11 Premier/Competitive programs and is a crucial part of our Player Development Pathway.

Our Academy Program is a player centric model where individual development is our primary focus, we teach the players the technique and tactics they require to enjoy the beautiful game in a professional developmental environment.

Our coaches work from the US Soccer Training & Planning Curriculum in order to make sure the players are being taught the appropriate information for their age, all sessions are built around the four pillars of the game; technical, tactical, physical and mental.

At T&C Soccer we truly believe that the child comes first, we work hard to ensure that all of the players are placed in a fun, developmental environment.

We run our own Development League on a Sunday afternoon for all players who are registered in the program, these games are developmental and we do not keep the scores, we change the teams around from week to week to maximize player development and new friendships.

We work with the players and help them understand the game and their role and responsibilities on the team whilst the parents sit back and enjoy.

We also place a number of teams in the CAYSA Academy, this is a local area league consisting of teams from other organizations around Austin. We place our stronger players who have had more experience and practice on these teams, players must be selected from the Development League to participate in additional games within the CAYSA Academy.

Players from outside of the club may try out for a team, please reach out to the coach of the specific team for information about team openings and try outs.

How does this program differ from the current Competitive program?

The Premier program offers more to it’s players, it’s a professional-level approach to player and team development, it is designed to add another level of play to T&C Soccer.  The current competitive program does not include paid professional training for every practice and every game whereas the Premier program does, it also offers many more perks which are listed above in the program details.

Can I try out for a team?

Yes, any player from any club can tryout for an Premier team providing they are born in 2009 – 2011

How much does it cost?

Player fees for  T&C Premier teams is $1250 per competitive year (August through May)

What is included in my fees?

Seasonal training twice a week for 18 weeks, 8-10 weeks of Skills Training per season, access to weekly Futsal pick-up games throughout the season, Fall and Spring league play and Spring Cup play.

What do I have to pay extra for?

Uniform, tournaments, out of town travel and  off season events such as camps or Futsal.  Most players spend around $300 in addition to their $1000 yearly registration.

How many games are played per weekend?

During league play teams can plan on playing one game per weekend, occasionally there may be two games a weekend, for tournaments and Spring Cup play there may be multiple games a weekend.

Can players participate in other sports whilst in the Premier program?

Yes. We strongly support our players participating in additional sports at this young age however they must communicate with their coach about making up any missed practices.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

If you are a coach interested in coaching competitive soccer, such as taking a recreational team to a competitive level, contact your age group commissioner.

If you are a parent and you already know a coach of an appropriate team, contact the coach directly; otherwise, contact Rob Cowart, and he will help you understand the available opportunities.

Should A Child Play Up In An Older Age Group?

A player’s soccer development age often differs from their birth age. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a player playing up a year. However, it is possible that there is everything wrong with a player playing up an age level if it is for the wrong reasons. It really comes down to skill level, soccer intelligence, physicality, emotional maturity and the reasoning for playing up.

Rather than going into detail, have a listen to the following podcast from Coaching Soccer Weekly. This podcast is from a coach’s perspective rather than a parent’s. However, it should provide great insight into the question.
