T&C Soccer

Soccer Programs

T&C Soccer offers programs for ages 3 to 18 with spring and fall fully recreational leagues in addition to a training academy and several levels for competitive league play.

Recreational Leagues

For ages 3 to 18 (U4 – U19), recreational soccer emphasizes fundamentals and instruction, while developing character traits like teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Children participating in recreational soccer will be placed on teams by neighborhood prior to the beginning of the season. Team selection also takes into consideration if the player is returning to a team or has submitted a friend or coach requests during registration.

All Division 4 games are played at the T&C Sports fields. Division 3 and above will play home games at T&C and away games at the opponent’s home field. Practices are held at both T&C and other local facilities.

Division 4 is a regular in house recreational league. D4 Teams play other D4 T&C teams in their league. All the games will be held at the T&C fields. They may also play in mid-season tournaments. This is the division that most of the players in these age groups play in. Learn More
Academy is a learning league focused on individual skills and team development. They will play inhouse T&C teams and neighboring Austin area league teams. Learn More
Division 3 is a regular recreational league. D3 Teams play other D3 T&C teams as well as neighboring league teams in the Austin area. Learn More
Skills Training program will be held during the Fall and Spring soccer seasons.  If you are not familiar with this program, it is a focused effort on technical training for our young athletes in addition to their team practice. The training will be offered once per week per age group and is open to any player. Learn More
Goalkeeper Training program will be held during the Fall and Spring soccer seasons for U10 and above. Sessions will take place on Friday evenings during the season. There will be three separate sessions, each for a specified age group, for any registered T&C player. Learn More

Select Leagues

Competitive and Academy leagues provide an opportunity for players to challenge themselves and improve beyond recreational play. In competitive leagues, Pre-season player assessments are held for new players (8U and up) to show their skills in front of all the coaches for their league. Players are then placed on a team that best fits their skill set. Learn more about the tryout process.

Division 2 is an introductory level of competitive play designed for those who enjoy the social aspect of the game and want to continue to develop their skills through better competition.  There is a requirement that coaches make every effort to play each player at least 50% of each game. Learn More
Super 2 Alpha & Challenger  teams participate in the Super II league within the District which requires more commitment with regard to travel and expense. Selection of players based on talent and ability is permitted and generally includes a pool of players from a broader spectrum.  There is a requirement that coaches make every effort to play each player at least 50% of each game. Learn More
Division 1 Select is recognized as the highest level of play within the state, players may be selected from across the state based on their ability, skill and commitment to the sport including a more demanding practice and game schedule.  There is no play time requirement at this level. Learn More
Premier U11-U19 is the highest level of play at T&C Soccer, it is designed to provide an affordable, top-level soccer program with professional hands-on training in a developmental environment. Learn More

SELECT TEAMS UNIFORM GUIDELINES

Competitive teams at T&C have flexibility in choosing their uniforms as long as they adhere to T&C’s established guidelines.  Click for Uniform Guide Chart.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

If you are a coach interested in coaching competitive soccer, such as taking a recreational team to a competitive level, contact your age group commissioner.

If you are a parent and you already know a coach of an appropriate team, contact the coach directly; otherwise, contact Rob Cowart, and he will help you understand the available opportunities.

Should A Child Play Up In An Older Age Group?

A player’s soccer development age often differs from their birth age. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a player playing up a year. However, it is possible that there is everything wrong with a player playing up an age level if it is for the wrong reasons. It really comes down to skill level, soccer intelligence, physicality, emotional maturity and the reasoning for playing up.

Rather than going into detail, have a listen to the following podcast from Coaching Soccer Weekly. This podcast is from a coach’s perspective rather than a parent’s. However, it should provide great insight into the question.

Division 4 Recreational - Under 4 through Under 10

This level of play is for players who are still working on the technical fundamentals and understanding of the game. It is the first step in becoming a technically sound player. It is a fun soccer laboratory where kids can experiment with different skills while playing with friends. A place where they can learn and grow without the competitive pressure of higher levels of play. However, players do compete and are challenged when they are on the field. Players at this level have the same opportunities for additional technical training, outside of team training and at no additional cost, as all other levels of play are offered. There is a required 50% playing time during games for every player at this level.

Division 3 Recreational - Under 11 through Under 19

Division 3 teams play inter-league against other teams in the CAYSA area (Central Texas), so there is more travel to games, potentially from Temple to far south Austin, depending on where the other teams are and whether the game is Home or Away. Half the games will be played at T&C (the home games). Players at this level have the same opportunities for additional technical training, outside of team training and at no additional cost, as all other levels of play are offered. There is a required 50% playing time during games for every player at this level.

CAYSA usually organizes tournaments at the end of each season, inviting the teams with the best records during the regular season to participate.

Program Details

Division 4 & 3 soccer focuses on recreation and fun, as well as skill development. Guidelines for recreation divisions include:

  • No selection/tryout process is permitted. Skill evaluations may be held in order to form teams in a fair and balanced method.
  • All players who register are assigned to a team as long as space in available on team rosters.
  • Players benefit from the opportunity for social interaction with other players their own age and the physical fitness aspects of the game while also developing better soccer skills.
  • Coaches must make every effort to play every player on the team at least one-half of the game unless unable due to illness or disciplinary reasons. In such cases, the coach must inform the referee and opposing coach that a player will not be participating.

Rule Changes from U10 to U11

  • U11 is 9-v-9 on a larger 47×75 yard field
  • U11 teams have a total roster size of up to 16 players.
  • The games go from two 25-min halves to two 30-min halves.

Rule Changes from U12 to U13

  • U13 is 11-v-11 on a full size field.
  • U13 teams have a total roster size of up to 18 players.
  • The games go from two 30-min halves to two 35-min halves.
  • Ball goes from size 4 to size 5.
  • Goal goes from 6.5’x18.5′ to 8’x24′

*Tournaments are at an optional additional cost to the parent, team registration is roughly $600/tournament split between all the parents on the roster, plus coaches expenses. These fees are typically  somewhere around $60 per family per tournament, as teams get older and more competitive these fees may increase slightly with out of town travel and  hotel expenses.

Skills Training

The T&C Technical Soccer Skills Academy program will be held during the Fall and Spring soccer seasons.  If you are not familiar with this program, it is a focused effort on technical training for our young athletes in addition to their team practice. The training will be offered once per week per age group. Each session will be led by dedicated paid technical trainers and select-level coaches. Why are we doing this? There is too large a focus on winning in youth soccer. US Soccer has openly stated that there is” Too much emphasis is placed on the result of the game” and that “The priority should be to develop skills and abilities”. If you would like to read more about where US Soccer is heading you can download the US Soccer Player Development Initiatives. When teams are just playing the biggest, fastest kids in key positions to win games, it is detrimental to individual player development. Eventually, as players grow older, speed and physicality can be mitigated by technically strong players and tactically skilled coaches. This is not to say that winning isn’t important, we do want to train the spirit of competition in a fun environment. The T&C Technical Soccer Skills Academy training is designed to be progressive and focused on long-term player development. We are not offering this to create overnight superstars. Instead, we are helping develop players today, so that they can be incredibly strong technical players in the future. The sessions will be broken down as follows

Sign Up For Tryouts

How do I know which program to tryout for?

This is personal preference, the Premier program offers the highest levels of play within those specific age groups, it is more competitive and a greater commitment. The Competitive program offers a high level of play in the older age groups but typically competes at CAYSA D2 in the younger age groups and is generally less of a commitment than Premier.

Can I sign up to tryout for both programs?

You can but do not have to, once you register for tryouts we will connect you with a coach of a team that we feel will be a good fit.

If my child doesn't make a Premier team can they play Competitive?

Yes, absolutelty. Any players that do not make it onto a Premier team will be given the opportunity to tryout for a Competitive team providing we have one in that age group.

Will my child be assessed for a particular division no matter which program they tryout for?

Yes. We are always looking to find the best fit for our players whether that be team, division or program.

Academy - Under 9 through Under 10

The T&C Soccer Academy is the second step on the Player Development Pathway at Town & Country Soccer, it forms a bridge between the U7/U8 Recreational and U11 Premier/Competitive programs and is a crucial part of our Player Development Pathway.

Our Academy Program is a player centric model where individual development is our primary focus, we teach the players the technique and tactics they require to enjoy the beautiful game in a professional developmental environment.

Our coaches work from the US Soccer Training & Planning Curriculum in order to make sure the players are being taught the appropriate information for their age, all sessions are built around the four pillars of the game; technical, tactical, physical and mental.

At T&C Soccer we truly believe that the child comes first, we work hard to ensure that all of the players are placed in a fun, developmental environment.

We run our own Development League on a Sunday afternoon for all players who are registered in the program, these games are developmental and we do not keep the scores, we change the teams around from week to week to maximize player development and new friendships.

We work with the players and help them understand the game and their role and responsibilities on the team whilst the parents sit back and enjoy.

We also place a number of teams in the CAYSA Academy, this is a local area league consisting of teams from other organizations around Austin. We place our stronger players who have had more experience and practice on these teams, players must be selected from the Development League to participate in additional games within the CAYSA Academy.

How does this program differ from the current Competitive program?

The Premier program offers more to it’s players, it’s a professional-level approach to player and team development, it is designed to add another level of play to T&C Soccer.  The current competitive program does not include paid professional training for every practice and every game whereas the Premier program does, it also offers many more perks which are listed above in the program details.

Can I try out for a team?

Yes, any player from any club can tryout for an Premier team providing they are born in 2009 – 2011

How much does it cost?

Player fees for  T&C Premier teams is $1000 per competitive year (August through May)

What is included in my fees?

Seasonal training twice a week for 18 weeks, 8-10 weeks of Skills Training per season, access to weekly Futsal pick-up games throughout the season, Fall and Spring league play and Spring Cup play.

What do I have to pay extra for?
