Rewards of Volunteering

When you volunteer, you give part of yourself, your time, energy, skills and feelings. You give to your family and friends, to your neighbors, to your community. Giving is one of the reasons why people volunteer. Their contributions to others and to their communities bring them feelings of self-fulfillment and the knowledge that they have made a difference.

Volunteering is also a way of saying thank you. It’s a way of recognizing the countless others who, in big ways and small, have made life richer and better through donations of time and effort.

But there is more to volunteering than giving. Volunteering offers the luxury of working in a supportive environment. You’ll learn from the experience, including much that you didn’t expect to learn. And the community will benefit, too. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. As a volunteer, you also reap personal benefits and enhance your personal growth.

 WATER EMERGENCY AT TOWN AND COUNTRY…

The current drought conditions in Central Texas have taken a heavy toll on our sports fields at Town and Country Park. The Town and Country Optimist Club have expended over $170,000 on water to maintain our fields this year. This is $70,000 more than we had available for the year and, as a result, has left the Club in a difficult financial position as we start into our Fall Sports programs.

In spite of this financial commitment, our once pristine fields continue to be very stressed from the lack of significant rain and months of 100 degree plus temperatures. Irrigation of our fields must continue or we risk losing the turf and having to close down fields for practice and use them for games only.

In order to have the funds to continue to fight this drought and irrigate our fields, I am asking each and every one of our participants to donate whatever they can to the preservation of our fields. I am creating the “T&C Water Fund” with the express goal of quickly raising $50,000 to enable us to purchase the necessary water from the City of Austin to irrigate our fields over the next few months. I am asking all of you to send in your donations today. If all of our fall sports participants donated $25, we can meet our goal. You can send your donation via mail or through our registration portal. 

All donations to T&C Optimist Foundation are tax deductible.  The Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization.
